Let's Understand What is Cataract सफेद मोतिया(Symptoms & Treatments)

A cataract (सफेद मोतिया) is a part of growing older, and if often occurs as a result of the natural aging process. Most people will develop cataracts at some point in their lifetime. The way we lose hair, our hairs becoming grey, skin getting aged, similarly everyone is going to have cataract one or the other day, but just because it’s a natural occurrence doesn’t mean cataracts are something that you have to live with. Cataracts can be treated and your vision can be restored, potentially even making it better than was prior to your first cataracts symptoms. Most Cataracts are related to aging and very common in people over the age of 55. Sometimes is happens as a result of other medical conditions like Diabetes. Cataracts can also result from taking medicines such as corticosteroids or diuretics.

Surgery is the only definitive treatment, which improves vision up to 90% of patients.

Don’t let poor vision hold you back any longer, Come to Visioncare.

It is a noninvasive photographic technique that checks the status of the cornea and any corneal diseases.
OCT Test
It is a noninvasive imaging technique that monitors the status of the retina and its distinctive layers.
B Scan/ Ultrasound
B Scan is used when the cataract is very dense or mature and hence is not allowing visualization of the retina. With this ultrasound system, any gross pathologies behind the opaque lenses are attempted to be ruled out.
Pentacam Test
It is a scanner that shows images of the anterior segment of the eye and provides data that helps surgeons plan the cataract treatment, especially prior to implantation of premium intraocular lenses or test irregularities in the cornea.
What Happens During Cataract Eye Surgery?

During cataract eye surgery, Our Visioncare Specialist surgeons remove the lens, which has become cloudy and replace it with an artificial and clear intraocular lens (IOL).

What happens after cataract surgery?

  • Right after the cataract surgery is done, your surgeon will do a post-op evaluation and will give you a few recovery instructions.
  • Please arrange for a driver to go back home as driving is not advisable right after the surgery is done.
  • You will be administered medicated eye drops, and you will be prescribed to use them for a couple of weeks after the surgery.
  • You will be advised not to get involved in physically straining activities like heavy weight lifting, getting indulged in intensive exercises, etc.
  • You will also be advised to protect your eyes from infection-causing elements and dust. Keep your eyes closed while taking a shower. Do not rush to go to the swimming pool, hot tubs at least for three weeks after cataract surgery.

Types of Intraocular lens(IOL) that our Specialist use to replace the original one.

Intraocular lenses measurements are different in different individuals and many times in two eyes of the same person. The measurements depend on the length of the eyeball and the shape of the front glass of the eyeball called cornea in most circumstances.

Monofocal Lenses

These are the most commonly used intraocular lenses. Monofocal lenses have the ability to focus light rays for either distance or reading as per the patient’s requirement. Most patients prefer correction for distance, hence after getting a monofocal lens, a reading correction is often required.

Toric Lenses

Patients who have varying light bending abilities in different meridians on the cornea/ front glass-like dome of the eye are said to have astigmatism. These patients require special intraocular lenses that account for their astigmatism. Such lenses are called toric lenses. They can be monofocal or multifocal in nature.

Multifocal Lens

Multifocal lenses ensure good quality vision and eliminate the need for corrective glasses. Multifocal lenses have concentric rings that help patients see for most distances with minimal requirements of glasses. However, your suitability for these lenses can only be decided upon by your surgeon after a thorough examination.

Aspheric Lenses

These lenses offer contrast sensitivity and good vision, especially at night.

Trifocal lenses

Trifocal lenses offer clear vision at an intermediate level (generally an arms length). These lenses correct both near and far vision also. The most significant advantage of trifocal lenses is they allow the person to switch effortlessly between near, far, and the in-between distances.

Extended Vision

Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF or EDF), or Extended Range of Vision, is a new technology that has recently emerged in the treatment of Presbyopia-correcting IOLs.

MICS world's most advanced centurion vision system at VisioncareSSEH (Meerut)

MICS found great acceptability and popularity amongst doctors and patients alike very quickly because of the apparent advantages of the surgical technique. The main benefits of MICS are better surgical control and prevention of corneal astigmatism because of the surgical procedure, and the decrease of postoperative corneal aberrations.  The main advantages of MICS include:

  • Smaller incision results in faster healing
  • Decreased chances of surgically induced astigmatism, as the incision is smaller. Therefore, less need for glasses after surgery
  • Faster recovery of vision, less surgical downtime
  • Compatible with premium IOLs, therefore better visual results each time
  • Faster healing because of the smaller incision is an added advantage in diabetic patients, the elderly and those with other comorbidities
  • Better for patients with corneal compromise and zonular weakness due to better fluidics and use of less phaco energy
  • No need for anesthesia injections, stitches, bandages or prolonged restriction of activities following surgery. In fact, fewer follow up visits are needed after MICS, and the patient can go back to usual daily routine quickly
